Monica Culpepper is mourning the death of her son, Rex Culpepper, just weeks after he died in Florida at the age of 28. The former ‘Survivor’ contestant shared her grief in an Instagram post on Monday, April 6, calling the loss unbearable and thanking friends, family and fans who have supported her family since Rex’s death on March 14.

People first reported Monica’s statement in the Tampa Bay Times that Rex died last month after a dirt bike accident in Florida. USA Today noted that the former Syracuse quarterback played at the school from 2017 to 2020 and returned to the field after overcoming testicular cancer.“No word. Weak try…” Monica wrote. “Our world stopped at 17:12 on 26/03/14. It’s like the world is spinning and we’re stuck somewhere far away. The nausea is constant. Our worst nightmare will not end.”He said the family is trying to keep moving while they honor him. “It’s hard to move on, but things have to be done to honor our beloved Rexy,” Monica wrote. He also thanked those who gave him “love, prayers, cards, texts, calls, meals, flowers, messages and hugs”, adding that support is “felt and tangible”.Monica closed her post by describing grief in raw terms. “It’s deep, it’s messy, it’s organic, it’s beautiful and it’s real,” she wrote as she named husband Brad Culpepper and other loved ones.

Rex’s fiancee, Savanna Morgan, first announced his death in a March 16 social media post. “No one expects you to meet and lose the love of your life within 6 years of meeting them,” she wrote. He added: “You made six years feel like a lifetime Rexy” and called her “one in a billion”.He recalled his range of talents, saying in a tribute: “There wasn’t one thing the man couldn’t do. Lawyer, mechanic, musician, cook, athlete, nerd… lover. He became such a lover.”The Syracuse football program also paid tribute. “Rex lived his life with endless passion, beating cancer at the age of 20 while playing for the Orange,” the team said. Additionally, “Our hearts go out to the Culpepper family and all who loved them.”
