Veteran actor-director EA Rajendran has passed away at the age of 71. He breathed his last at his residence in Pattathanam, Kollam reported.Manorama Online reported that EA Rajendran was undergoing treatment for a long time for age-related ailments. A native of Thrithallur in Thrissur district, Rajendran is survived by his wife, Sandhya Rajendran.
A journey from theater to cinema
Rajendran started his artistic career at a young age. During his school days at Thrissur UP School he actively participated in theater performances.After completing his college studies, he joined the National School of Drama, Delhi. He graduated with a first class in acting and then did a television course at the Film Institute in Pune.
A remarkable film career
EA Rajendran appeared in about sixty films in his career. He played villains and character roles in several superhit films. Apart from films, he also acted in popular TV series.She made her debut in VR Gopinath’s ‘Greeshmam’. However, he faced a period of no choice film industry. After a long break he returned with the classic film ‘Kaliyattam’ directed by Jayaraj. Rajendran has acted in several films including ‘Pranayavarnamgal’, ‘Daya’ and Jayaram’s ‘Pattabhishekam’.
Beyond acting and personal life
Rajendran also made his mark in theater and other creative fields as a director as well. He was also the president of the State Horticulture Corporation. She was also the brother-in-law of actor Rajendran Mukesh.In 2025, Rajendran addressed his health concerns in an interview with YouTube channel Mainstream One. She clarified that the weight loss was intentional.“I reduced my weight as per the doctor’s advice to manage my sugar level. Age is also catching up, and I have to be careful. My son is acting now, and we are also running a production company. I am one of the leading producers of South Indian serials,” he said.His mortal remains will be preserved for public tribute in Kollam. Later, they will be taken to their native Thrissur. The funeral rites will be held the next day at Thrithallur, his residence in Thrissur.
