Even when I came to the cinema at 28, I was filled with fear. Then we won’t have much confidence in ourselves. Same with me.”The pressure of carrying a famous surname also made him wary and he added, “Even then, it was rare for second-generation actors to do well in Malayalam cinema. Prithviraj came much earlier. Fahadh came around the time I did. So I don’t have much of a reference there. I was petrified (Ma) to tarnish that legend’s name.”
The early struggles of the Hindi film industry
Although Dulquer later went on to have a successful career in all industries, his early experiences in Hindi cinema were not always smooth.Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter in 2025, he talked about how difficult it was to set up on certain sets. He recalled that sometimes he had to project a star image to be taken seriously.Dulquer said, “When I was doing Hindi films here, my two people and I would push ourselves on the set. I had to create that excitement of being this big star. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have found a chair to sit on. I wouldn’t have found a place to look at the monitors.” There would be a lot of people.”The experience changed his perspective on how the industry works, “I realized it’s all about perception. If you come in a fancy car with a lot of people, suddenly the perception is, ‘Oh, this is a star.'” That’s sad, because that’s not where my energy should go.”
Take the leading role in Malayalam cinema
Dulquer Salmaan made his acting debut with the Malayalam film ‘Second Show’.
