Produced by Rodrigo Espinel, the Spanish remake of Drishyam will begin shooting in June after Kumar and Abhishek Pathak bagged the global remake rights. The emotional story continues to connect the world. Hindi Drishyam 3 will release on October 2, while Malayalam Drishyam 3 will hit the theaters on May 21.

In February 2024, it was announced that ‘Drishyam’ would soon see versions in several international languages. That’s where the announcement came from Kumar Mangat Paths and Abhishek PathakAashirvad Cinemas which acquired the global remake rights of “Drishyam 1” and 2 from the original banner. At that time, the US and Korean projects were already underway, and talks about the Spanish version were in the final stages. Now, almost two years later, the much-awaited Spanish remake is all set to go on floors in the coming months.

The Spanish remake of ‘Drishyam’ will begin shooting in June

A Bombay Times report revealed that Rodrigo Espinel, who is producing the Spanish version of ‘Drishyam’, had announced at the Delhi International Film Festival that the shooting of the film would begin in June. Sharing his insights into the project, he said: “It’s an interesting story because my partner is a Mexican producer who bought the IP rights, and he called us because Spain has fantastic tax incentives. The concept fits perfectly into the Spanish culture. So we’ve started working now, and we’ll start filming next June. It has a Spanish director and a top Spanish actor.’

Drishyam’s universal story connects across the globe

When asked why the remake of Drishyam will resonate with Spanish audiences, Rodrigo Espinel said, “At the end of the day, it’s a story of a father trying to protect his daughter and a mother trying to find where her son is, so it’s easy to adapt. I think as a producer, if you try to adapt a very local film, it’s difficult. Even if the spirit of the film is a case where we adapt. It’s a very Indian film, it’s easy to adapt and connect with our audience.

The Hindi version of “Drishyam” brought the story to Bollywood

Released in 2015, ‘Drishyam’ was the official Hindi version of the 2013 Malayalam film starring Mohanlal. the protagonist Ajay Devgntaboo, Shriya SaranIshita Dutta and others, the film was directed by Nishikant Kamat. It depicted the heart-wrenching story of an uneducated father who goes to great lengths to protect his wife and daughter after the accidental death of a sex predator. The victim, being the son of a powerful and ruthless police officer, makes the situation even more intense and complex.

The ‘Drishyam’ franchise continues with a third installment

After the success of ‘Drishyam’, its sequel ‘Drishyam 2’ (2022) emerged as an unexpected blockbuster. The film saw the return of the original cast, along with the addition of Akshaye Khanna in an important role. Abhishek Pathak has directed the sequel and has also taken the responsibility of ‘Drishyam 3’ which is releasing on October 2 this year. In the upcoming episode, Akshaye Khanna will not be part of the cast, Jaideep Ahlawat and Prakash Raj they have entered the franchise.

Malayalam serial ‘Drishyam’ goes ahead

Meanwhile, the second installment of the original Malayalam version, ‘Drishyam 2’, will hit the theaters in 2021. The third chapter of the franchise will be released in cinemas on May 21 this year.
