The Delhi Directorate of Education has directed teachers to conduct interactive orientation sessions, help students share their aspirations, and assess academic gaps as schools across the city open for the 2026-27 academic session on Wednesday. According to a DoE circular issued on Tuesday, the initial focus will be on creating an inclusive and engaging classroom environment to help both returning and newly admitted students adjust to new classes and peer groups. Teachers are asked to communicate with parents and guardians to understand their expectations and update student records, it said, and will also provide an overview of the curriculum, outline learning objectives and academic expectations for the year. To ensure sustained progress, teachers are advised to assess subject-wise differences and design targeted interventions, as well as organize activities that promote interaction, communication skills and confidence among students. According to the circular, school heads have been directed to complete preparatory arrangements, including finalizing time tables, maintaining hygiene, ensuring availability of clean drinking water and sanitation facilities. The guidelines also emphasize timely distribution of textbooks, proper signage in school premises and staffing at entrances and exits to guide students in an orderly manner. It added that the authorities have asked schools to plan the academic calendar in advance, review the results of the previous session, and focus on co-curricular and sports activities as well as improving basic literacy and numeracy. Officials at the district and zonal levels have been directed to visit schools regularly, including on the opening day, to monitor preparations and ensure compliance with instructions, it said, adding that these measures are aimed at ensuring a smooth, orderly and auspicious beginning of the new academic session.
