The project, with Steven Spielberg as producer along with Kristie Macosko Krieger, will return to a subject closely related to her career. After directing War of the Worlds in 2005, the filmmaker is revisiting alien-centric stories. The screenplay comes from David Koepp, who previously collaborated with Spielberg on War of the Worlds. Koepp wrote the screenplay for Disclosure Day based on an original story by Spielberg. His early credits include ‘Jurassic Park’, ‘The Lost World: Jurassic Park’ and ‘Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull’.Spielberg has long been associated with stories about extraterrestrial life. Beyond War of the Worlds, his earlier classics Close Encounters of the Third Kind and ET the Extra-Terrestrial explored encounters with alien life from a more hopeful perspective. With Disclosure Day, he seems to reexamine that territory through a darker lens, with media panic, ownership and secrets fueling the suspense. The film is also Spielberg’s first genre project since Ready Player One (2018) and follows 2022’s drama The Fabelmans. Disclosure Day hits theaters and IMAX on June 12, 2026.
