Despite the huge success of the high-energy song ‘Shararat’ in the first episode ‘Dhurandhar’, fans noticed a distinct lack of celebratory dance numbers in the sequel ‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’.Countering the buzz, lead choreographer Vijay Ganguly revealed in a recent interview that the decision was completely deliberate. According to Ganguly, while the wedding setting of the first film provided a natural canvas for a dance anthem, the sequel is a revenge thriller “from start to finish” defined by constant tension.
Vijay Ganguly shares that there was no song like ‘Shararat’ in ‘Dhurandhar 2’
In an interview with India Today, Vijay Ganguly talked about not having a song like ‘Shararat’ in ‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’. He said, “Many people asked me why there is no song like ‘Shararat’. But initially, the film was conceived as a single story. All the songs were supposed to be in the first half, and the second half focused on revenge, which is what you see now.”He also shared that it was always “planned that way.” The choreographer added that there is “no room” for a celebration song in “Dhurandhar 2”. According to him, a wedding sequence made it possible to insert such a song in such an environment. However, in the latest release, “From beginning to end, there is constant tension.”As Ganguly points out, “Adding a random song would disrupt the narrative. If a song is not organically part of the script and is only added for promotion, it rarely works.”
Why did Vijay Ganguly work for the film “Shararat”.
In the same interview, Vijay Ganguly added that the song became one of the main focuses of the film because it was the story, not the track. He said, “It worked because it was embedded in the story. It didn’t feel like the narrative paused for a song. A lot was happening inside it. It moved the story forward. That’s why it connected. In the second half, there simply wasn’t that scope.”The choreographer said that he is happy that they didn’t forcefully add a song for the sake of adding it, because “people would question it”.
