Ram Gopal Varma calls ‘Dhurandhar 2’ a horror

Varma, who is famous for his scathing opinions, termed the sequel a “terrible” for directors stuck in a “superfluous and redundant cinema”, saying “Dhurandhar 2” exposes the flaws in conventional hero narratives. In a lengthy post, he wrote, “@Dhurandhar2 is HORROR. Horror for all the filmmakers who built their careers and fortunes on extremes, high-end cinema. Cinema that required you to leave your brain at home. The movie that will soon be on a ventilator was forced into our throats full of LOUDness and MASALA struggling to breathe. #Dhurandar2 will scare the living hell out of every filmmaker who still worships the divine hero. In #Dhurandhar2 , @RanveerOfficial killed all the heroes who never bleed and never feel pain, and then on top of the corpses of those stale heroes, gave birth to a real, true hero, flawed, but dangerous and unpredictable, whose heroism comes from his actions, rather than banging his head on a drum. Compared to this new type of hero, the divine heroes will suddenly look ridiculous, almost like clowns in a circus. And then their blind worshipers will feel naked, exposed and scared when they listen to the collections.’“#Dhurandhar2 will terrify those who built their careers on non-gravity, non-physics action set pieces. Scenes where men are thrown fifty feet into the air, bounce off the ground like rubber balls, survive explosions that would vaporize cities, and still deliver punch lines while dusting shoulders kill new audiences. After watching the action that really hurts the audience, the flying goon brigade will suddenly feel cheap, fake and embarrassingly ridiculous. Filmmakers who still vow to lift heroes by ropes and cranes will now wake up shivering in a cold sweat. It will send pan India directors shivering in their chairs who still believe that characters are created by hairstyles, costumes, photoshopped six-packs and designer clothes instead of inherent psychological depth. When the audience of #Dhurandhar2 saw a hero who comes from his mind and not his biceps power, the hair and costume school of cinema will be in disguise,” he added. The filmmaker further wrote, “Dhurandhar 2 is not just a film. It’s a verdict. With Dhurandhar 2 @AdityaDharFilms cut the head of that type of cinema that insulted the audience’s intelligence, replaced stories with bloated visuals, turned heroes into gods and spectators.” The collection of #Dhurandhar2 is in the process of burying all these beliefs so far in a grave, a grave from which even their ghosts cannot be brought out. And the screams you’re hearing now about #Dhurandhar2 box office collections is a collective sound heralding their demise. Makers of those kind of movies who are already in production or about to start shooting, don’t go back to their drawing boards and exorcise #Dhurandhar2 by watching it multiple times, not even GOD can save their SPIRITS. But the problem is, even if they intend to do it, they may have tons of money, but where will they get the brains of @AdityaDharFilms?”.
