'Dhoni's absence doesn't matter much': SRH star opens up on CSK

New Delhi: Sunrisers Hyderabad batsman Heinrich Klaasen has given a stunning assessment of Chennai Super Kings, saying the absence of their charismatic former captain MS Dhoni “really doesn’t matter” to the five-time champions in IPL 2026.Speaking after Sunrisers Hyderabad’s mixed start to the season, Klaasen played down the impact of Dhoni’s absence as a player, suggesting that CSK’s strength goes beyond one individual.“CSK have an incredible IPL record. Even without Dhoni there, they are not an underdog side. They are a very strong side. It will not be an easy game,” Klaasen told JioStar Press Room.‘More influence in leadership than batting’Acknowledging Dhoni’s stature, Klassen emphasized that the veteran’s lack is felt more in leadership than in his contributions on the field with the bat.“Dhoni not being there doesn’t really matter. It’s more about the other guys. I don’t think his absence will have that much of an impact apart from his leadership.” He noted.South Africa also pointed out that Dhoni’s recent batting roles have been limited. “He’s only been coming to bat on 5-10 balls in the last few years,” Klaasen added, pointing out why CSK remain competitive even without their iconic finisher.SRH confident despite slow startKlaasen’s comments come at a time when SRH are trying to bounce back after two defeats in their first three matches. Their only win so far has come against Kolkata Knight Riders, while losses to Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Lucknow Supergiants have opened the gap.Despite the setbacks, Klassen remains optimistic. He said that it is still the early days of the tournament. We are confident that we will advance in all areas.SRH are also dealing with the temporary absence of skipper Pat Cummins, with Ishan Kishan leading the side.Targeting CSK’s batting depthLooking ahead to their clash against CSK, Klaasen stressed the need to put pressure on a strong batting line-up.“Shivam (Dubai) is in good form, his openers are fantastic – we have to squeeze him a bit more,” he said.Classen, known for his aggressive approach, also spoke about his comfort against spin. “I have played a lot against spinners,” he said. They are coming for me and I am going after them. With both teams looking to find consistency, Klaasen’s candor added spice to what promises to be a high-profile encounter.from IPL Schedule Up to the latest IPL 2026 Points TableDon’t waste a single moment of the battle for Winner of the IPL Orange Cap And IPL Purple Cap
