Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced a special assessment scheme for declaring Class 12 results for students studying in West Asian countries. This decision has been taken in view of the current situation in the region.
Exams were canceled due to security concerns.
CBSE said that the 12th board exams scheduled from 16 March 2026 to 10 April 2026 have been cancelled. The decision applies to CBSE-affiliated schools in Bahrain, Iran, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.The exams which were earlier postponed to March 2026 have also been cancelled. The board said the decision was taken to ensure the safety and security of students.
Why is an alternative assessment scheme needed?
CBSE said that some examinations were conducted before the situation worsened. However, many exams could not be held.To ensure fair results, the board has introduced an alternative method instead of relying on incomplete examination data.How many subjects are included?
- Academic Subjects: 17
- Subjects of Expertise: 10
- Total Subjects: 27
Students category is covered.
The board has identified different groups of students based on the number of examinations they have appeared in:
- Students enrolled in all subjects
- Students who joined 4, 3, 2 or 1 subject.
- Students who have all their exams pending.
- Students with compartment or additional subjects
How will the numbers be calculated?
CBSE said that Class 12 has two sections:
- Test theory
- Practical or internal assessment
Marks are divided as follows:Practical or internal assessment marks will be taken as already given by the school.For theory numbers, different methods will be used depending on the student’s case.
Important points of evaluation scheme
- Students appearing in all subjects will be evaluated on the basis of their performance in the previously conducted examinations.
- The results of students who appeared in fewer subjects will be prepared using school-based assessment and entrance marks.
- Schools will use periodic tests, mid-term exams and pre-board exams for assessment.
- Best performance in available records will be considered.
- Marks will be uploaded by schools as per CBSE guidelines.
For students with one exam only
The result will be based on this exam. If the examination is not conducted, the students will have an opportunity to appear in the supplementary examination in July 2026.
Students changing examination centers
Students transferring from affected countries, including India, will have their results based on their performance in examinations conducted at the new centre.
Uploading of marks
CBSE will provide an online platform for schools to upload marks.

- Last Date: April 13, 2026
Schools have been asked to upload correct numbers within the schedule. No changes will be allowed after submission.
Verification and record keeping
- Schools must keep all records.
- CBSE may later verify the record.
- Any unfair practice may lead to action against the school.
Declaration of results and next steps
The results will be declared as per CBSE rules.Students who do not meet the pass criteria will be placed in the compartment category.Compartment exams will be conducted later if required.Other Important Points
- Absent students will be declared accordingly.
- Photocopy and re-evaluation options will be available after the result.
- The decision of CBSE will be final.
