‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’ is a digital release
The film, which hit theaters in December, is gearing up for a digital release on March 31, according to a report in People. The film’s OTT debut comes after the end of its theatrical run. Fans can also get their hands on a physical copy of the film later this year on May 19.
‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’ box office collection
The sequel to ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ was a commercial success, although it did not achieve the performance of the first two films in the saga. ‘Fire and Ash’ crossed the $1 billion mark at the global box office in January, just weeks after its release. However, as its numbers slowed down, the film eventually ended its theatrical run with a collection of USD 1.48 billion.
James Cameron on the future of the ‘Avatar’ franchise
Despite the film being the third film in the franchise to surpass US$1 billion, Cameron hinted at the challenges of continuing the franchise with two more films awaiting release. Doubts about the two upcoming films were raised when the director suggested during an appearance at the Saturn Awards on March 8: “We have to figure out how to make the Avatar movies cheaper in order to continue.” He added that the films are “probable”, but not 100%.
‘Avatar 4 ‘and’Avatar 5 ‘ he announced
Before the release of ‘Fire and Ash’, the director announced two more films in the ‘Avatar’ series that are in development. Although the timelines are uncertain, ‘Avatar 4’ was slated for a December 21, 2029 release and ‘Avatar 5’ a tentative release of December 19, 2031.
