A seemingly playful kiss cam at a Coldplay concert last summer turned into a career-ending scandal for Astronomer’s chief technology officer, and now former top person Kristin Cabot is facing an open challenge. Gwyneth Paltrow and Ryan Reynolds on their answer. The viral clip of Cabot hugging CEO Andy Byron sparked massive scrutiny, resignations and personal fallout. Cabot’s recent interviews paint a picture of regretful harassment of women, and frustration with Hollywood advertising promoting the company that mocked her pain.
The concert clip that changed everything
During Coldplay’s performance in Massachusetts in July 2025, the jumbotron captured Cabot and Byron in an awkward embrace. They quickly parted ways, but frontman Chris Martin teased on stage about a potential affair, sparking an online frenzy. The Astronomer released a statement: “Our leaders are expected to set a standard in both conduct and accountability, and recently, that standard was not met.” The already separated Cabot filed for divorce shortly thereafter. A source told People that the backlash felt “devastating” for Kristen Cabot, who has never publicly confirmed an actual romance. Reflecting to the New York Times, Kristen Cabot said, “I made a bad decision and had a couple of High Noons and danced with my boss and acted inappropriately. And it’s nothing.” He revealed that feelings had developed over the course of four or six weeks, and they intended to make it known properly. On Oprah Winfrey’s show, she took full responsibility: “I own the bad decision I made at that moment. I paid an unimaginable price for it. That’s why I chose to leave my job.”

“I was going through a really tough time. I was coming out of a breakup, and it felt so good to have the attention and love of an amazing man,” Kristem Cabot said. Oprah Winfrey on the show. The ad campaign provokes outrage
The astronomer hired Ryan Reynolds’ Maximum Effort agency to turn the situation around so he could be less guilty. Within 14 hours of the clip going viral, a PSA was produced with Paltrow, Chris Martin’s ex-wife, “consciously uncoupling” in 2015. Advertisement “OMG! What the real f—?” Before Paltrow said, “Yes! Astronomer is the best place to run Apache Airflow.” On behalf of the controversial announcement, according to People, Kristen added, “I’ve been hired on a very temporary basis to speak on behalf of the 300+ employees at Astronomer,” then shifted focus, “Now we’re going back to what we do best, which is delivering game-changing results for our clients. Thank you for your interest in Astronomer”. Reynolds later shared in the Wall Street Journal, justifying the ad as self-driven and strategically sound, both of which supported the Astronomer’s popularity at the CMO Council Summit: “14 hours later, I’m paying for it, [and I didn’t] they still have their blessing, but I [knew] that at that time no one knew what an Astronomer does. So I said, ‘What if Gwyneth explains?'” She called Astronomer an “amazing company” that does “amazing things,” and said the ad “helped move the conversation away from where it was, which I think was pretty toxic, and focus on something that really mattered in a way that was fun and easy and emotional and beautiful.“Speaking to Oprah Winfrey, People reported, she highlighted the painful persecution of women: Kristen said, “What I’ve seen in the last few months makes it harder for me to believe that we’re holding men back. I think we’re holding ourselves back terribly by cutting each other down.” She ended her relationship with Byron last fall, citing a “gross lack of honesty and integrity,” adding: “Lying is non-negotiable.“
