Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter India about the film, Anurag Kashyap said that the character immediately grabbed attention as it was different from the roles he usually gets. “I was told I would be playing a cop, but not a villain. It’s not an anti-hero story. It’s really a love story,” he explained. He also liked that the character was realistic and imperfect. “I wasn’t asked to play a psycho or an eccentric role. I was playing someone my age, someone with flaws and limitations. When he runs, he gets tired and has his own struggles,” said Anurag Kashyap. The story of ‘Dacoit’ mainly focuses on two ex-lovers who carry love and anger within themselves. Anurag Kashyap portrays the character who serves as a trigger in the story.
‘Dacoit’ helped Anurag Kashyap reflect on life and health
Anurag Kashyap stated that the film also benefited him in some way. The long hours and demanding scene made him think about his health and lifestyle. “At the end of the film, it put me in a good space. I realized that I needed to focus more on my health and fitness,” she said. He added that the experience also gave him time to step away from the busy Mumbai lifestyle and focus on writing again. “I feel like I’m back where I started: instead of writing scripts and rushing around waiting for films to be made the right way,” explains Anurag Kashyap.

Interestingly, Anurag Kashyap had earlier revealed that he agreed to do ‘Dacoit’ after hearing the story at a wedding. “It was very strange how I got in. I was at Shobhita’s wedding when the producer met me and that’s when he started narrating the film,” he said. Initially, Anurag Kashyap had doubts as he was busy directing two films. However, as the narrative progressed, he began to understand the depth of the character. “During that interview itself, I understood half of the character. That’s when I felt I had to do it,” he shared. The film finally convinced him to get in front of the camera again.
