Four years after the sudden death of Shane Warrenfresh comments from his son Jackson Warren have reignited the debate surrounding the circumstances surrounding the spin legend’s death. Warne, who died of a heart attack in Thailand in 2022 at the age of 52, stunned the cricketing world with his unexpected death. Speaking on the ‘2 Worlds Collide’ podcast, Jackson shared his belief that the COVID-19 vaccine may have played a role, while also admitting that his father had underlying health concerns. “I definitely think that (the COVID vaccine) was involved. I don’t even think it’s controversial to say that anymore. Even if dad had underlying health issues, I think it brought that up and that’s something I’ve always struggled with,” Jackson said. He also showed his immediate reaction upon hearing the news of Warren’s death. “My first impression, as soon as I got off the phone (after getting the news of Warren’s death), I immediately blamed the government. I immediately blamed COVID and the vaccine.” Jackson admitted that he considered expressing these thoughts publicly during the memorial service but ultimately chose not to. “It was probably smart that I didn’t, if I had I would have been in a very different position. But that’s how I felt,” Jackson said. On further reflection, she claimed that her father reluctantly took multiple doses of the vaccine, suggesting that outside pressure influenced the decision. “Yes, a lot of people were dying of heart attacks before that. But dad was fine, I think he got three or four (doses of vaccines), he didn’t want to take them, he was forced to take them for work. He was forced to take them like everyone else,” she asserted. Jackson also talked about how he now combats those thoughts. “…I try not to think about it too much because all he does is get angry. That anger isn’t good for anybody,” he added. Providing an insight into Warren’s lifestyle, he described his father as being in a relatively good place physically and mentally, despite certain known habits. “Dad, at the time, was healthy, he was happy, he looked the best he’d been in a while. Yes, he smoked and drank, but many people in their 80s and 90s still smoke and drink more than Dad.” Warne had tested positive for COVID-19 a few months before his death during his involvement with The Hundred in England in 2021. However, there were no widely known serious medical conditions at the time, making his sudden passing all the more shocking.
