Choreographer and dancer Shakti Mohan She has expressed her views on marriage, motherhood and relationships, saying that she is content with her life and does not feel the need to follow society’s expectations.Speaking to Siddharth Kannan, Shakti addressed the persistent questions about her personal life and whether she plans to settle down soon in her 40s.“Many people ask me a lot about marriage. My father asked me yesterday only if I found someone, my mother wants me to live with someone. At least she tells me to get a boyfriend,” she said.
“If I’m happy, what’s the problem?”
The dancer emphasized that she is satisfied with her work and her current life, and that she does not feel that she is missing anything.“I’m really enjoying my work and running my studio. I don’t feel like there’s anything missing. Society’s thinking is that you have to have someone in your life. If I’m happy this way, what’s the problem? If I get someone good, I’m not saying no, but when there’s no one, why should I push myself to look in that direction?” he added.Confirming that she is currently single, Shakti also shared that she has never felt the urge to have children.
‘I don’t have motherly instincts’
“I don’t have maternal instincts. I’m a great aunt and I’m the first person for my niece, but I still don’t have maternal instincts. I don’t want to have children of my own,” she said.
“If boys are like this, I don’t want boys in my life”
Shakti also spoke candidly about a past relationship that left a deep impression on her, revealing that she was cheated on and chose to leave immediately.“I was cheated on in a relationship. I immediately broke it. But my mother told me that he is a nice guy, that we had a relationship for three years, and that I should leave him. He told me boys are like this. You accept it. But I told him that I will not accept this in my life. If boys are like that, I don’t want boys in my life,” she said.Recalling how the experience affected him, he added: “My mother saw me cry for months. I didn’t know the concept of cheating. If someone cheats on you, you can never forget that and then you question everyone.”Shakti revealed that she had caught her partner cheating but continued to deny it despite the confrontation. Although he later apologized and tried to reconcile, he decided not to go back.
