Jason Segel’s Finland Experience: What Happened?
Segel shared the full story on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’ on the show, and to be honest, it says a lot about how different cultures deal with friendship. Segel was in Finland filming his new movie ‘Over Your Dead Body’, and one day he stopped by a local supermarket. Like any American, he greeted people, made small talk and even tried to chat with store employees as he wandered the aisles.But instead of being greeted with a smile, he caught the eye of a security guard who was following him out of the store. When the guard finally confronted him, he even asked if Segel was high. All those greetings and random conversations? It’s not normal in Finland, apparently.Segel explained that he likes to ask how people are doing and make small talk, even where most people are trying to get food and go home. But in Finland, people are much more reserved. Small talk with strangers? It’s not really their thing. Standing in the cereal aisle, having a friendly conversation? That seems strange, maybe even suspicious.He had to tell the guard: “I wasn’t high, I was just being friendly.”
