To be honest, we broke up. We knew it would be the first big death. At the time, I think maybe we were thinking about the third episode.’The writers, on the other hand, pushed hard. Kripke revealed, “The writers were the ones who really campaigned for it; it’s their fault,” continuing, “They campaigned. They said, ‘You keep saying that no one is safe, and this is going to be a season where anything can happen at any time. So with all due respect, put your damn money where your mouth is and show a major character that you’re willing to throw a first episode.” Because if you do that, for the whole season, no one will feel safe.” And I thought it was a winning argument.”Kripke concluded, “So some of the stories we were talking about — like getting together with his brother and Han Solo choosing to be a hero after starting off as a sort of character — were this three-part arc, and we did a greatest hits version to have a proper ending in the premiere.”
