Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has officially notified “Computational Thinking (CT) and Understanding Artificial Intelligence (AI)” as the training theme for the academic session 2026-27. It is taken as per the guidelines laid down in National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCFSE) 2023.This clearly reflects an effort to incorporate new age technological concepts into the school curriculum along with teacher training.
A new syllabus was introduced for classes 3 to 8.
A significant change in the field of education has been introduced by the Central Board of Secondary Education with the introduction of a special course on “Computational Thinking and Artificial Intelligence”, which will be conducted from Class 3 to Class 8 starting from the year 2026-27.The curriculum aims to develop basic skills such as logical thinking, problem solving, and pattern recognition skills. In addition, the curriculum also helps to familiarize students with the responsibility and ethics of using artificial intelligence.
Teacher training consists of seven key themes.
CBSE has provided a well-defined training module for its successful implementation. Training will include subtopics such as understanding CT and AI, interdisciplinary approaches, pedagogy, application, evaluation, and ethics.The board wants the training module to be implemented in such a way that teachers learn to integrate these topics across disciplines including mathematics, science, social science and languages and not treat AI as a separate subject.
District workshops and school level activities were planned.
As part of the rollout, CBSE has directed schools to organize district-level discussions and workshops on CT and AI. These will be conducted as one-day offline sessions, focusing on sharing best practices and capacity building of teachers.Schools are also encouraged to collaborate through Sahodia School Complex or groups of institutions. Attendance at these workshops will count towards continuing professional development (CPD) hours, and records will need to be maintained.Selected presentations from these sessions may be shortlisted for national-level evaluation, with the top entries being showcased at a future national teachers’ conference.
Expert-led sessions and digital learning to complement the training
Apart from workshops, CBSE has proposed that expert-led talks be conducted by designated lead schools. These sessions can be conducted in online or offline formats and will include internal or external experts.The board has also highlighted the use of digital learning resources, including educational broadcasts on DDPME Vidya Channel CBSE 15, to support ongoing teacher training and student engagement.
Regional orientation programs through Centers of Excellence
CBSE’s Centers of Excellence (CoEs) will conduct regional workshops and orientation programs as part of the wider training programme. Teachers can participate through an online registration process for a fixed fee, and will receive CPD credit on completion. The schedule of these programs is expected to be released soon.
Focus on integration, expertise, and responsible AI use.
According to CBSE, the initiative aims to provide a nurturing environment in which the use of computational thinking and AI can be seamlessly integrated into the day-to-day teaching process. The initiative will ensure that teachers have the opportunity to create practical and interdisciplinary work and allow students to study areas including coding, data science and mathematics.The focus on using AI technology responsibly will also continue, requiring CBSE schools to educate their students about the issues surrounding the technology and its social impact.CBSE has appealed to all its affiliated schools to participate in this initiative by nominating teachers who can benefit from the scheduled training workshops.Here is The link On official notice.
