National Informatics Center (NIC) under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has invited online applications for the posts of Scientist-C and Scientist-D on direct recruitment basis. The drive aims to fill 153 vacancies in various technical and scientific domains, with lucrative pay scales and opportunities to work on core government technology infrastructure including e-governance and national digital platforms.The online application process started on 8th April 2026 and will be open till 30th April 2026 (5:30 PM). NIC Recruitment Vacancy Breakdown and Pay Scale
This recruitment includes 12 posts for Scientist-D and 141 posts for Scientist-C. Scientist-D positions come under Pay Level 12 (₹78,800 – ₹2,09,200), while Scientist-C roles are offered under Pay Level 11 (₹67,700 – ₹2,08,700).Out of the total vacancies, category wise reservations are reserved for SC, ST, OBC (NCL) and EWS candidates as per official norms. Additionally, 6 posts are reserved for persons with Horizontally Benchmarked Disabilities (PwBD) including locomotor disability, hard of hearing, and multiple disabilities.
Eligibility criteria and experience requirements
Candidates applying for these posts should have a degree in engineering, technology or related science subjects. Accepted qualifications include BE/B.Tech, ME/M.Tech, M.Sc, MCA, M.Phil, or equivalent certification such as DOEACC ‘B’ Level and AMIE.Eligible fields cover a wide range, including computer science, information technology, electronics, cyber security, data communications, software engineering, GIS, mathematics, statistics, and basic engineering disciplines such as mechanical, civil, and electrical.For Scientist-C, applicants must have at least 4 years of relevant experience, while Scientist-D candidates must have 8 years of experience in a research, development, or technical role in academia, industry, or government agencies. PhD is required for Scientist-D roles.Candidates with higher degrees such as M.Tech, ME, or M.Phil are eligible for a 2-year relaxation in the experience requirement.
