‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’ continues its strong run at the box office, its director Aditya Dhar has obtained interim relief from the Bombay High Court in a defamation case related to allegations of script theft. On Wednesday, the court issued an interim order to keep the filmmaker away Santosh Kumar Reiterating that Dhar had copied the film’s script. Dhar approached the judge, arguing that Kumar’s repeated remarks in the media were defamatory and damaging to his reputation. According to the Bar And Bench, Justice Arif Doctor found that Dhar had established a prima facie case warranting such relief. “Until the next date, the accused (Kumar) shall be restrained from repeating all other allegations in the suit (filed by Dhar) and of a similar nature,” the court said. The issue will be next April 16.The controversy stems from Kumar’s statements at a press conference shortly after the film’s release, where he allegedly accused Dhar and the makers of copying his registered script titled D Saheb. Following these allegations, Dhar issued a legal notice denying any plagiarism and warned Kumar against making further claims. However, with no response from Kumar, Dhar moved the High Court seeking legal recourse. In his petition, Dhar has sought an injunction and damages, saying the allegations are baseless and defamatory. Representing him in court, senior advocate Birendra Saraf argued that Kumar’s statements were highly damaging. “What I am looking for is, if he has a complaint about the violation, he said I will initiate legal proceedings. He can initiate legal proceedings and I will respond to him appropriately. But in the meantime, he cannot use such language,” Saraf said. Considering the wide spread of the statements, the court granted limited interim relief to Dhar.“In my opinion, the plaintiff has made a case for limited interim relief,” the Court concluded.
