Vibhu Suryavanshi made it clear that he does not go by reputation when facing a bowler, as the 15-year-old faced the first ball. Jaspreet Bumrah Suryavanshi then scored another maximum in the same over for a six, shocking not only the ace bowler but also everyone else on the field. Suryavanshi was the talk of the town for his 14-ball 39 blitz in the RR vs MI fixture in IPL 2026, even eclipsing teammate Yashasvi Jaiswal’s match-winning knock of 77 not out off 32 balls. MI suffered their second loss of the season, unable to match the tempo set by Jaiswal and Suryavanshi, unable to chase down 150 in the allotted 11 overs. They eventually finished with 123/9. The MI bowlers had a tough night with the two youngsters scoring 80 runs in the first five overs, essentially setting up the game for the home side.
Barring Hardik Pandya, every bowler conceded more than 10 runs per over, with Deepak Chahar and Trent Boult conceding 22 runs each in their solitary overs. Bumrah, after conceding 14 runs in his first over, gave away 18 runs in his next two, while Shardul Thakur scored 36 runs in his second over and, in effect, Sabullah Ghazanfar was out for 21 runs in his second over. Pandya returned respectable figures of 2-0-17-0. And amid the disaster, Bumrah returned wicketless for the third consecutive match. A rarity in Bumrah’s illustrious T20 career. For Bumrah, this unwanted hat-trick of going wicketless in three consecutive matches was actually the first time in almost 8 years and only the fourth time in his entire T20 career. Bumrah has bowled 345 wickets with an economy rate of 6.92 in 273 matches for MI and T20I in IPL. That is about 1.26 wickets per match. The last time an MIS bowler went wicketless in three consecutive IPL games was in the 2016 season, when he returned 4-0-35-0, 4-0-28-0, 2-0-13-0 against SRH, RCB and KXIP respectively. Other instances besides this latest 2026 season were in T20Is in 2017/18 and earlier in the 2014 IPL season.
