Comedian Samay Raina has opened up about the controversy surrounding India’s Got Latent, including some scathing criticism. Sunil Pal, B Praakand Mukesh Khannaas he defends his comedic style in his latest special Still Alive.
“It’s not natural for me to play a clean character”
Using the earlier Kaun Banega Crorepati anecdote as context, Samay explained how his comedy identity is rooted in humorless humor. “Playing a clean character doesn’t come naturally to me,” she said, stressing that she feels the tone is inauthentic.He linked this to the backlash around India’s Got Latent, especially Ranveer Allahbadia, aka BeerBiceps. “Ek clean banda kabhi kabhi h*rami nahi ban sakta internet pe,” he said.Drawing on a metaphor, he added, “Non-vegetarian veg kha sakta hai, vegetarian non-vegetarian khayega ulti hi karega,” explaining why audiences often dismiss sudden personality changes.

Talking about the controversy, Samay said that an FIR has been lodged against Ranveer Allahbadia for leaving him out of the set picture. He jokingly called him “the monk who sold my Ferrari”, accusing him of misleading the show.He further explained that the backlash arose from the breakdown of the persona he had built up over the years. “Hum Kashmiri cross fire me hi marte hain,” he said, adding, “It broke me like anything,” referring to the decision to pull the show off in India.Samay also revealed that she received support from Pakistan after the show was axed.Describing India’s Got Latent as raw and largely unscripted, he said “Bhot gandi gandi baatein keh dete the” is fun, adding that he tried to “play it safe” by carefully editing the episodes and interacting with the panelists after the shoot.

Recalling the reactions, Samay said, “Sab aa gaye the khane hamko – politician, celebrities, Sunil Pal”, and that Sunil advised her to learn from Kapil Sharma, joking that it was “khud agle episode me aa rahe the”.He also took digs at others, including B Praak and Mukesh Khanna, saying “Shaktiman aa gaya tha yaar. Shaktiman se kaise ladenge” while criticizing what he called attempts to gain prominence during the debate.Commenting on how the matter escalated, Samay made a sharp remark, “India is not a platform to showcase your art.” At the end of the show, Samay said that he couldn’t have asked for a better ending to India’s Got Latent Season 1, and hinted that Season 2 will be out on YouTube soon.
