Vijay Varma takes on the role of Brij Bhatti in the highly anticipated web series ‘Matka King’, which unfolds against the vibrant backdrop of 1960s Bombay. Vijay Varma ‘Matka King’ is all set to release his next web series. The show deals with gaming in India. Ahead of its release on a streaming platform, the makers unveiled the trailer of the series directed by renowned director Nagraj Ganpatrao Manjule.

‘Matka King’ trailer is out

The trailer shows Brij Bhatti’s transformation from a worker to a Matka King. However, his journey involves many ups and downs and, of course, the underground. In the 2:25-second glimpse, Vijay’s character says, “Isko jua satta nahi bonenge aaj se. Aaj se iska naam, ‘Matka’.” Sai Tamhankar On the other hand, she plays the wife of Vijay’s character Critique Kamra plays his mistress. Watch the trailer here.

The show is set in Mumbai (then Bombay) in the 1960s and revolves around a merchant who starts a new gambling system. In Mumbai and around Maharashtra, it was called ‘Matka’.According to The Hindu, the show’s synopsis, directed by Nagraj Manjule, reads: “Matka King follows Brij Bhatti, a shrewd and enterprising cotton merchant, played by the dynamic Vijay Varma, in the fast-changing landscape of 1960s Bombay against Set’s legitimacy, respectability and anti-trust market. Shifting power dynamics, what starts as an ambitious idea soon takes on a life of its own, and it draws people from all walks of life, as aspirations grow and the stakes rise, unfolding into a compelling narrative shaped by ambition, power and belonging.Apart from Vijay Varma, the show also stars Kritika Kamra, Sai Tamhankar, Siddharth Jadhav, Bhupendra Jadawat and Gulshan Grover. The star cast includes Vineet Kumar Singh, Bharat Jadhav, Girish Kulkarni, Jamie Lever, Kishor Kadam, Cyrus Sahukar, Arpita Sethia, Sambhaji Tangade, Ishtiyak Khan, Sanjivv Jotangia and Simran Ashwini in pivotal roles.The show will premiere on Prime Video on April 17, 2026.
