TNRTE Admission 2026: Parents in Tamil Nadu who wish to secure Class LKG and I admissions under the Right to Education (RTE) Act for the academic year 2026-27 can start planning as the key dates approach. Applications will open on April 20 and close on May 18, giving families about a month to submit the form on the official TN RTE portal or directly at the private school of their choice.Document verification and age criteria will also be strictly checked this year. How to Apply and Required DocumentsParents must provide child’s date of birth, address, caste/category, and proof of income. The portal will also ask for documents for children belonging to specific categories such as orphans, children with disabilities, sanitation workers, or children with HIV. The documents have to be provided between April 22 to May 19 when the process is being verified online. If any documents are missing, parents will receive an SMS notification and have to upload it before 5 pm on May 19.The draw will be held in schools on May 22 and the final list of admissions will be announced on May 29. Children belonging to special categories will be given priority before the draw. Parents are requested to consider their preferences while applying as no changes can be made after application.Here is a complete list of documents that will be required for TN RTE Admission 2026–27.Documents required for all applicantsProof of Age – Birth certificate obtained from Gram Panchayat, Municipal Corporation, Hospital Registration, or Anganwadi/Bulwari.• Address Proof – In the form of Aadhaar Card, Passport, Electricity Bill, Water Bill, or Voter ID Proof in the name of applicant’s father/mother. Rental agreement, if others are not available.• Proof of Caste Category – Obtained from appropriate authority for reserved categories.• Income Proof – Income proof for Financially Weaker Section (EWS), with a maximum annual income of Rs 2 lakh. The seat allotment, based on the state’s Education Management Information System (EMIS) records for 2025-26, will be displayed on school notice boards on April 7 and publicly available on the TN RTE portal on April 15.This year, the process has reverted to inviting applications afresh, whereas last year schools were asked to transfer eligible students to the RTE quota without a formal call for applications.
