Gujarat RTE Admission 2026: Online applications for admissions under the Right to Education (RTE) Act in Gujarat began on April 4, 2026, opening access to Class 1 seats in private schools for children from economically weaker and middle-income families. The application window will remain open until April 17, with submissions accepted until midnight on the last day.This year the number of seats in private schools has exceeded 84000 which was 94000 last year. As per the RTE rule, 25% seats in all private schools will be reserved for weaker sections of the society, based on the admissions made in the previous year.Availability depending on seats and mediumOf the total seats, more than 41,000 seats will be in Gujarati medium and 40,262 in English medium institutions. The number of seats will be 2,235 in Hindi medium and 320 in other medium. According to Directorate of Primary Education officials, parents were given ample time to submit the required documents to facilitate the admission process.This year, there is an option for children to choose the school by time, whether morning shift or afternoon shift. No such facility was provided earlier in the previous admission process.Admissions preferences and processA revised list of preferences has also been incorporated into the admission process this year. In the previous admission procedure, children admitted from Anganwadi centers were given priority over reserved category candidates. In the current year, preference will be given to children belonging to certain categories.Applications should be filled through the official portal. Parents are expected to submit all supporting documents while filling the form online. These documents include proof of date of birth, proof of residence, caste or category, and income certificate issued by the competent authority. Documents related to income tax return will be attached where necessary. Proof of residency documents should include the following options: Aadhaar card, passport, electricity bill, water bill, or voter ID card. A registration rental agreement will be taken as a valid form of identification only if the other mentioned documents are not available, and no notarized rental agreement is acceptable.Other important documents will include the following: birth certificate issued by competent agencies, caste certificate issued by competent authorities, and income certificate issued valid till 1 April 2023.
