Last December, his layoff was pushed back from May to June, then moved back to April in March.
Right now, Combs is serving a 50-month sentence. She was convicted last summer of two counts of transporting people for prostitution after a high-profile trial in New York. The jury cleared him of more serious charges, such as sex trafficking and racketeering conspiracy, which could have sent him to prison for life. Before his sentence, Orrazie spent about a year locked up at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn. He was not granted bail. Last December, Combs’ lawyers filed an appeal, arguing that the sex at the center of the case was consensual and that the judge imposed too harsh a sentence. On February 20, federal prosecutors fired back in court, saying Combs was a repeat offender who used violence and threats. She was convicted under the Mann Act, a federal law that prohibits the transportation of people across state lines for the purpose of prostitution.The trial lasted eight weeks. Cassie Ventura, Combs’ ex-girlfriend, and another woman (who testified anonymously) said he orchestrated drug-fueled sex, so-called “freak-offs,” with a paid male escort. Prosecutors say Combs arranged trips for the men, sometimes out of the country or even internationally, and used control and coercion in her relationships.Prosecutors told the US Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit that the judge got it right by looking at how Combs treated the women. “According to Combs, the district court should have turned a blind eye to how he carried out the Mann Act crimes and abused the victims by brutally beating, threatening, lying to, and drugging them,” they wrote.Combs’ defense team is fighting hard, insisting that everything was consensual and that prosecutors failed to prove their strongest claims. They say that the judge relied too much on the conclusion that the women were forced or coerced, even though the jury did not reach that conclusion. On March 13, Orrazien’s lawyers appealed his long sentence as a “perversion of justice”, calling for his immediate release, acquittal or at least a new trial.
