‘Avengers: Doomsday’ to skip clash with ‘Dune: Part Three’; Film to hit IMAX screens until December 11: Reports |

'Avengers: Doomsday' to skip clash with 'Dune: Part Three'; film release till December 11 to score IMAX screens: Reports

While fans were gearing up for the epic “Dunesday” showdown with Marvel Studios’ “Avengers: Doomsday” locking horns with “Dune: Part Three,” new reports say the big box office hit may be avoided after all.

‘Avengers: Doomsday’ release date to be pushed forward?

According to various reports, Marvel is considering moving up the release date of ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, not to avoid clashes, but to ensure access to premium IMAX screens during the very busy December box office.Reports suggest that the studio is in discussions to move the film’s release to December 11, a week earlier than the December 18 schedule. The move is because ‘Dune: The Third’ has been canceled after the June 2024 IMAX version has been blocked. As ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ was booked on the same day a year later, the film will not have any access to screen its film in the IMAX format.

The book “Dune: Part Three” offers IMAX screens for 3 weeks

‘Dune: Part Three’, which was also shot in IMAX, has reportedly committed to all US screens for three weeks starting December 18. With this deal in place, ‘Doomsday’ likely won’t have access to a significant number of screens for nearly a month.

Why December 11 is perfect for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’

With ‘Jumanji 3’ ditching its December 11 release for December 25, the box office is now open for ‘Doomsday’ to enjoy not only IMAX screens but a solo release and rake in a lot of cash before facing any competition. Despite the feud, it should be noted that ‘Doomsday’ is tracking a USD 1 billion box office haul.

‘Avengers: Endgame’ box office record

In 2019, when ‘Avengers: Endgame’ was released, the IMAX format made a significant contribution, generating USD 91.5 million in its opening weekend. The one-week run alone was enough to make “Endgame” the fastest film in history to reach $1 billion at the global box office. It achieved the milestone in five days and achieved a lifetime collection of USD 2.79 billion.Meanwhile, starring in the Bollywood film ‘King’ Shah Rukh KhanSuhana Khan, Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan will also release in December. Currently, the film will hit the big screens on December 25.
