Aditya Dhar‘s Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge, starring Ranveer Singh starrer, has sparked controversy after filmmaker Santosh Kumar RS alleged that the film is based on a script he wrote in 2023. Backed up with details and documents to register his claim, the filmmaker has said he will take legal action.
The filmmaker says he identified the similarities after watching the film
Santosh shared that he only realized about the alleged overlap after watching the film, which has performed brilliantly at the box office.“You all could see Dhurandhar 2. It’s doing very well everywhere. After watching the movie, I knew it’s my script and story. I wrote it with a lot of work in 2023. I told many companies because they told me that if I need big actors in the film, there should be a corporate body backing the media,” he told them.
It was presented to the studios while the project was being developed
The filmmaker said he had taken the script to various production houses with a view to scaling the project, including Sony Pictures, Zee Studios, T-Series and Dharma Productions.She also revealed that she had a different casting choice in mind in the initial stages, casting Aditya Roy Kapur as her lead.
‘I have registered my story’ with the Screenwriters Association
Santosh points out that his script is officially registered and has evidence to back up his claim.“I tried a lot, and I sent my story to a lot of people. I’m a member of the Screenwriters Association, and I registered my story there in November 2023,” he said.
“My story has been exploited,” says the filmmaker
Reiterating his stance, Santosh said he plans to pursue the matter legally, even as he acknowledged the film’s success.“I put a case against this film because, although they have made a good film, my story has been exploited. I wrote the film for cinema and entertainment, but they made it as political propaganda. It’s hurting me,” he said.He also emphasized that the issue goes beyond his personal experience. “What happened to me should not happen to anyone, and that’s why I will do my best to inform people about it,” he added.

According to his IMDb profile, Santosh Kumar RS hails from Thirthahalli in Shivamogga district of Karnataka and has worked as a director, writer and producer. He made his directorial debut with the Kannada film Campus Kranti (2023), and Yuvan is currently working on Robinhood, an Indian action thriller slated for release in 2026. On the other hand, Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge, directed by Aditya Dhar, also stars R Madhavan, Arjun Rampal, Rakesh Bedi and Sanjay Dutt. The film, which was released on March 19, is approaching 900 million euros at the global box office.
