Ever since the death of businessman Sunjay Kapur, there has been a legal battle over his Rs 30,000 crore inheritance between his widow and ex-wife Priya Kapur. Now the latest update on the matter is that the court has given time to Priya to respond to Mandhira’s plea. According to ANI, Mandhira has approached the court seeking registration of specific documents. During the hearing, Chief Judicial Magistrate Siddhant Sihag gave time to Priya’s counsel to file a reply if he so desired. Mandhira participated in the events through video conferencing.Representing Priya Kapur, senior advocate Maninder Singh appeared along with advocates Smriti Asmita and Jhanvi Narang, while advocate Amit Prasad appeared for Mandhira Kapur. During the proceedings, Maninder Singh sought additional time, stating that the copy of the petition was received a day earlier.Earlier, Priya Kapur’s legal team had opposed the request to produce the documents, arguing that the matter was still at the notification stage and had not progressed to the stage of making charges. They said the requested documents were unrelated to the defamation complaint and were publicly available. The lawyers argued, “we are at the notice stage, not the charge stage. So the production order cannot be filed at this stage. All the documents he (Mandhira Kapur) is looking for are related to property, trust etc. These are not related to this complaint and are in the public domain. He is aware of everything,”In the defamation suit, it is alleged that the publicly circulated material promotes misleading narratives aimed at tarnishing Priya Kapur’s reputation and harassing her through public discourse, not public discourse.Sunjay Kapur, former chairman of Sona Comstar, married actress Karisma Kapoor in 2003. The couple had two children: Samaira, born in 2005, and Kiaan, born in 2011. the couple later adopted a son, Azarias.Meanwhile, in August last year, Priya filed a document in the Delhi High Court, saying it was her will. Samaira, Kiaan and Rani contested. Some reports have pegged the value of Sunjay’s assets at around Rs 30,000 crore, though Karisma Kapoor’s children have stated that they do not know the exact valuation of the estate.
