NIC Recruitment 2026: Applications open for 243 posts of scientists

National Informatics Center (NIC) of Government of India under Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has invited applications for the posts of Scientist-B through direct recruitment. A total of 243 vacancies have been announced in emerging domains like computer science, electronics, and data science and artificial intelligence. This recruitment provides an opportunity for engineering graduates to join a leading organization driving India’s e-governance and digital transformation initiatives.Established in 1976, NIC has been instrumental in building ICT infrastructure and implementing technology-based governance systems in central, state and district administrations. Candidates will be shortlisted based on their GATE score, making it a highly competitive and merit-based selection process.

NIC Recruitment Dates and Application Timeline

As per the official notification (Advt No: NIC/SCB/2026/1), the online application process has already started and will be open for a limited period.

  • Application Start Date: March 27, 2026

  • Last Date to Apply: April 24, 2026
  • Cut off Date for Eligibility: March 31, 2026

Vacancy Details and Pay Scale

NIC has announced vacancies in three major technical streams:

  • Computer Science and IT: 168 posts
  • Electronics and Communication: 25 posts
  • Data Science and AI: 50 posts

Scientist-B Roll is a Group-A gazetted post under the 7th Central Pay Commission, offering pay in Level 10 (₹56,100 to ₹1,77,500) with allowances and perks applicable to Central Government employees.However, candidates should note that the number of posts is tentative and subject to change depending on organizational requirements.

Eligibility Criteria and Selection Process

Applicants must have a valid GATE score from one of the following years: 2024, 2025, or 2026. Accepted papers of GATE include:

  • Computer Science and Information Technology (CS)
  • Electronics and Communication Engineering (EC)
  • Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (DA)

Shortlisting for next stage will be strictly based on GATE performance. After that shortlisted candidates will be called for document verification and personal talk/interview.
