JioStar has ended its broadcast deal with a local partner in Bangladesh, a move that means the Indian Premier League (IPLAccording to a report by Reuters, this season will not be shown in the country.Bangladesh fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman was released from his contract by Kolkata Knight Riders following tensions between the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).“The agreement is terminated with immediate effect,” JioStar’s letter to Bangladeshi broadcaster TSports said, as cited by Reuters. The local company had sub-licensed the IPL rights for a period of 2023 to 2027.JioStar cited financial issues behind the move, saying its partner’s “continuous failure and default to adhere to contractual payment timelines”.The decision also applies to the Women’s Premier League (WPL), with broadcasters ending arrangements for both tournaments in Bangladesh on similar grounds.The situation comes amid strained relations between India and Bangladesh following political changes in Dhaka in August 2024, when former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina left the country following a popular uprising.The initial broadcast ban was triggered in early 2026 by the controversy surrounding Bangladesh fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman, who was signed by Kolkata Knight Riders for Rs 9.20 crore. The franchise eventually released him on the instructions of the BCCI.
