Rajpal Yadav and his wife Radha recently spoke about one of the most difficult phases of their lives, when the actor was embroiled in a court case and was briefly jailed. In a recent interaction, the couple spoke candidly about navigating the crisis, managing family responsibilities and staying strong through it all.Rajpal Yadav was sent to Tihar Jail in February 2026 to serve a six-month sentence in a Rs 9 crore kickback case related to his 2010 directorial debut Ata Pata Laapata. He was granted interim bail on February 17, 2026, after paying part of the debt, with legal battles continuing since March 2026.
“I was trying to keep everyone together”
Recalling the difficult times, Radha recounted how overwhelming the situation was, especially with social media scrutiny and personal responsibilities clashing at the same time.“It was a lot to take in. Social media and him being in jail, there was so much going on at the time. We also had a wedding in the family at the same time, and there are young children at home. I was trying to juggle everything, manage things and keep everyone together,” she told Curly Tales.He added that his immediate priority was to ensure stability at home, pending Rajpal’s release. “First of all, it was very important for him to get out. With the wedding date so close, nothing could be changed.”Speaking about her children, she said: “My older daughter knew about everything through social media, so we explained things to her. But the youngest is only seven years old, so it was difficult for her to understand what was happening. My main focus was to keep everyone positive and remember that whatever happened, there is always a way out.”
“I hurt for my family, not for me”
Rajpal Yadav, for his part, admitted that he was deeply affected by the emotional impact of the episode, especially because of its impact on his loved ones.“Radha had nothing to do with any of these matters. I handled all the meetings and everything related to the case,” he said, adding: “But what happens is, needless to say, mentally and physically, the trauma affects the whole family. That’s what hurts me the most, not for me, but for my wife and my family.”He praised Radha for her strength in times of crisis. “Radha managed everything, whether it was family, traveling between Mumbai and the city or managing our blended family, it was amazing. I don’t say this as a husband, but as a woman, I now respect her a hundred times more. I don’t think I’ll ever get back what he did.”
Marriage, education and building a life together
The couple also spoke about early marriage and how Radha pursued her education after tying the knot. “I got married very young, at 18. I told him I wanted to finish my degree. I wanted to study interiors,” shared Radha, who spent two years focusing on her studies, including time in London and the American InterContinental University in Dubai.
“It’s the glue that keeps the family together”
Despite the difficulties, Radha described Rajpal as the pillar of her family, someone who ensures unity no matter the situation.“It’s very strong… in the whole family, I think it’s the glue that holds everyone together,” he said.“He made a promise to his mother years ago that he would keep everyone together, and he still stands by it. Even if he bends a little or convinces others, he makes sure everything goes back to normal.”He further added that Rajpal’s daughter from his first marriage is settled in Lucknow and has two children.
