Popular Bengali actor Rahul Arunoday Banerjee died on Sunday (March 29) in Digha’s Talsari, near the Odisha-West Bengal border, due to accidental drowning. He was 43 years old.His wife Priyanka Sarkarshared a statement on Instagram, asking for privacy as the family copes with the loss.“This is a time of great pain and deep disappointment for us. At this difficult time, we sincerely ask for space and privacy,” he wrote.“There is a child, a mother, a family and loved ones who are trying to navigate this loss together. We kindly ask our friends and media colleagues to respect our boundaries, not to intrude and allow us the dignity to grieve in peace. Your understanding and support mean more than ever at this time,” he added.Rahul and Priyanka got married in 2010, separated in 2017 and later reconciled in 2023 when they continued to raise their son Shohoj together.
The drowning incident after the shooting
The actor traveled to shoot for the TV show Bholebaba Paar Karega which was running since Sunday morning.According to the first data, the incident happened after the package in the evening. Rahul reportedly entered the sea alone and soon disappeared, causing panic among the members of the production unit.Crew members and technicians managed to pull him out of the water and took him to Digha Sub-Divisional Hospital, 10-12 km from Talsari Beach. He was pronounced dead at 6:10 p.m., with initial reports indicating drowning.

Rahul’s co-star Diganta Bagchi told PTI, “After today’s shoot, he went into the water alone, but somehow got tangled in something underwater… The exact circumstances are not clear. Suddenly, people, including the crew, were shouting that Rahul was drowning and we pulled him out of the water. We took him to Digha hospital.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee Expressing grief over the actor’s death, he said, “I am shocked, deeply saddened to hear the news that the famous, young and popular actor Rahul Arunoday Banerjee is suddenly no longer with us. I can’t understand what happened exactly. He was one of my favorite actors and a person I really admired.
