Aamir Khan he still can’t beat his 2022 flop, Advait Chandan’s ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’. This is the official Indian version Tom Hanks1994 Hollywood movie ‘Forrest Gump’. At the Indian Film Festival in Melbourne (IFFM) in Australia, Aamir said that this failure was very different from his last, ‘Thugs of Hindostan’, Vijay Krishna Acharya’s 2018 action adventure.

“When Thugs didn’t do well, I wasn’t surprised because I didn’t like it. So the audience and I were on the same side. Although I was sad, because a lot of effort was put in. Adi (Aditya Chopra) put in so much money. He is a great producer. He did so much for the film. And of course we could have been an accident. But with Laal Singh Chaddha, I thought it was a very nice film. It’s still a very good movie,” Khan admitted.

As the live crowd praised the film, Khan responded that there were only a few at its theatrical release. “Although Laal Singh Chaddha has been liked by many, I know many people have not succeeded. It would be childish of me to try to believe otherwise, because there is no way you can kill a film that the audience loves. So if it didn’t work, the audience didn’t connect with it.”
Aamir Khan admits over-reliance on budgets
Aamir highlighted how he spent on the Rs 200 crore budget of ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’. “I had too much success lately, so I became overconfident. So I thought it would make 300 crores easily. Ideally, I would sit down with my production team and say it’s not a mainstream film. Then we would figure out what its reach is. We should take the lower limit, and not be hopeful,” said the actor.

Choking down with tears in his eyes, Aamir likened the failure of Laal Singh Chaddha to losing a child. “When Laal Singh didn’t work, I was quite broken. I was very sad, depressed and in mourning,” said Aamir. In the end he came out stronger from the ordeal. “The first few months were traumatic for me, but then I got over it. I think that’s the way I am. I don’t try to hold back my emotions. It’s very important for me to feel. Whatever I feel, I allow myself to feel it,” added the actor.

Amid Laal Singh Chaddha’s setbacks, the only bright spot was the presence of his family. “Due to Covid, I tried to reconnect with my family. So when Laal Singh was not working, my sisters (Nikhat and Farhat Khan) would visit me. My mother (Zeenat Hussain) was around. My children (Junaid, Ira and Azad Khan) were visiting. Kiran (Rao, ex-wife) was passing by. Reena (Dutta, ex-wife) was asking, ‘What’s going on? Are you okay?” I was like, itna bhav toh mujhe life mei kabhi nahi mila yaar (laughs). If I got so much attention from my family after a flop, I would have given it two or three more years,” laughed Aamir.
