According to an interview with Collider, Drew Goddard said he loves working with Weir because “there’s a real mutual respect and a real joy in the process.” Weir has echoed this, describing their collaboration as something he “looks forward to” rather than dreads, despite the pressure to adapt his books.

Goddard has admitted he was nervous about continuing ‘The Martian’, especially after the months Weir and the filmmakers endured to secure his availability for ‘Project Hail Mary’. I didn’t want to let Andy down.”
