Aditya DharDhurandhar 2: The Revenge has arrived in new controversy, even as it continues to be a nightmare at the box office. An urgent plea is said to have been made before Madras High Court seeking a ban on the film’s release in Tamil Nadu citing concerns over the Model Code of Conduct ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections.
The Plea refers to the political content and the election schedule
According to Live Law, an advocate made an oral submission before Justice Sushrut Arvind Dharmadhikari and G Arul Murugan, arguing that the film deals with political issues and should not be screened during election time.With Tamil Nadu all set to go to polls in a month, the timing of the film’s release has become a point of contention.However, the court ordered the petitioner to file a formal petition and then request an urgent hearing. A decision on whether the release will be suspended is likely to be made after the judge accepts the plea.
The storm at the box office continues
In between legal buzz, starring Dhurandhar: The Revenge Ranveer Singhis rewriting box office records. The spy thriller became the second Indian film after Pushpa 2 to have a massive opening weekend, earning Rs 761 crore worldwide in four days of its release.Backed by Jio Studios and B62 Studios, the film has set new benchmarks across territories. While Pushpa 2 leads with Rs 795.50 crore in the first four days, Dhurandhar has beaten big entries like Baahubali 2, RRR and KGF 2 in its opening weekend run.
Record-breaking numbers
The film collected ₹145 crore (nett) in India through paid previews and opening day, along with ₹52 crore overseas, making it the first Indian film to cross the 100 crore mark in a language in a single day.On the second day, it earned 83 crores (net) in India and 46 crores overseas. Collections rose over the weekend, 117 crores (nett) in India and 58 crores worldwide on Saturday, followed by 121 crores (nett) in India and 56 crores worldwide on Sunday.This totaled 761 crores worldwide, including 550 crores gross in India and 211 crores from international markets. Dhar’s 2025 sequel Dharandhar: The Revenge released on March 19 in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam. The film also stars R Madhavan, Arjun Rampal, Sanjay Dutt, Sara Arjun and Rakesh Bedi.Set in Lyari, Karachi—a region known for its history of gang wars and turf wars—the film revolves around covert intelligence operations against the backdrop of major geopolitical events such as the Kandahar hijacking, the 2001 Parliament attack and the 26/11 Mumbai attacks.The sequel traces the rise of Ranveer Singh’s Hamza Ali Mazari in Karachi’s underworld, also explores his origins as Jaskirat Singh Rangi, and traces his transformation into an undercover operative.
