In a surprising twist, showrunner Steven Conrad announced that Jason Bateman had taken over the role of Clark in ‘DTF St. Louis’ project after undergoing a narrative recalibration initially aimed at Pedro Pascal.

Steven Conrad pondered why Jason Bateman He took on the role of Clark in ‘DTF St. Louis’. The showrunner recently revealed that the role was originally intended to be portrayed by Pedro Pascal; however, that changed when the story began to go in a different direction.

Steven Conrad reveals when the change came

Speaking to PEOPLE, Steven Conrad said, “He (Bateman) had a few different stories to evaluate and maybe we could set them up here with these terms, these characters,” Conrad recalls. He added that they started “doing some roadwork” trying to figure out what the most exciting long-term story was, and then decided they were going to “complete a true crime angle that existed.”

How the role went from Pedro Pascal to Jason Bateman

“Pedro was at that very early stage where David and I were just getting our heads around things,” Conrad said. “When that role became brand new and open and something to recreate, I thought of Jason because I knew he was free, and he rarely is. So we tried to attract Jason to the role, and it all made sense to Jason.”Conrad added that playing Bateman Harbor’s “partner in crime” came naturally to the camera, comparing him to “two little kids who sit in a fort and play with matches.” Conrad also revealed that he and Jason have been friends for years and were trying to find something. He continues, “And then it occurred to me that I could build this for Jason.”
