Karan Johar has responded to the buzz about a possible sequel to his flagship film ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham’ by adamantly stating that he will not disturb the cherished memories associated with it. Although his ambitious project ‘Takht’ remains shelved for now, he assures viewers that it will not be forgotten.

Filmmaker Karan Johar has put an end to speculations about a sequel to his 2001 film ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham’. He confirmed that there are no plans to make ‘K3G 2’ and also clarified that his historical drama ‘Takht’ is not being revived at the moment. The director addressed both issues in a recent interview, and announced a new project that is quietly developing.

Karan Johar on ‘K3G 2’ rumors and ‘Takht’ revival

According to Hindustan Times, Karan Johar rubbished rumors linking ‘K3G 2’ with a remake of ‘Takht’. He said, “There is no Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham 2 and no derivation of Takht.” The filmmaker has explained why he has no interest in revisiting the iconic film.Johar said, “I would never do a K3G 2, because I’m not saying it was the best film ever made, every film has its flaws, but K3G has plenty of them, which is nostalgia.” He also spoke about the emotional value given to film across generations.“There are generations that grew up watching those movies, they love the movie, and I’m very grateful for the universe that I managed to create a movie that’s still alive, and I’m very proud and happy about that, but I’ll never get confused with that nostalgia, that love that that movie received.” He added that trying to follow through could backfire. “Because even if you’re making a film like K3G 2 you’re setting yourself up for disaster.”

Karan Johar hints at ‘Takht’s next project and future

Karan Johar also addressed the future of ‘Takht’ which was announced in 2020 but was later shelved. He said, “And a revival of Takht is not on the cards now, but that’s definitely a film I’m going to hold my breath and hold.” He is a recognized writer Sumit Roy for the script and called it his strongest work.“I think it’s the strongest script developed with Sumit Roy, full credit to him. He’s the writer of the film, and I think it’s the best work of my career, and I hope to make that film one day.”The director has also hinted at a new project that has not been publicly discussed. He said: “What I’m really developing, no one talks about it, and thank God for that.” He added, “With the rumored outfit K3G 2, the film I’m actually writing and developing, no one has any idea about it.”“Takht” was first announced with a large ensemble cast of Ranveer Singh, Kareena Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Vicky Kaushal, Bhumi Pednekar, Janhvi Kapoor and Anil Kapoor, but was delayed and eventually scrapped due to various factors including the pandemic.
