‘I don’t believe in politics… it’s cinema’
Responding to critics who labeled the film as “propaganda”, Rakesh Bedi told NDTV, “I don’t believe in politics. I think it’s cinema… Everyone has the right to like or dislike a film. But I don’t think it’s right to put a film in a certain category.”He added, “The verdict is that people love it,” citing the strong audience participation.The actor also credited the film’s writing and scale for its success. “Dhurandhar’s writing, the script is brilliant. People have never seen a film put together on this scale,” he said, adding that audiences are responding to the film beyond the buzz around it.
“Madness I’ve Never Seen”
Describing the response to Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge, he said, “This is a madness that is happening. I have never seen anything like this in my career.”He also asked the audience to live in cinemas, “There are so many shows going on around the clock… People are celebrating cinema.”
On working with Ranveer Singh
Talking about sharing screen space with Ranveer Singh, Rakesh said, “The stardom of any star is an external phenomenon… When you are on set, you are a character.”He added, “everyone has to be on the same page and respect each other. Only then does the magic happen.”Reacting to the film’s global buzz, which included Finnish President Alexander Stubb and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney discussing Dhurandhar at a race in London, he said: “What could be a bigger compliment? I was delighted.”Recalling the conversation with director Aditya Dhar, “he used to say, ‘We will raise the bar’. After watching the film, I told him, ‘You have not raised the bar, you have broken the bar'”.
“Wonderful gift at this stage”
Calling the franchise a milestone in his career, Rakesh Bedi said, “It’s a gift…I give full credit to Aditya Dhar for casting me.”Apart from Ranveer Singh and Rakesh Bedi, the film also stars R Madhavan, Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal and Sara Arjun in pivotal roles.
