The concerns were echoed by UK-based sports physiotherapy and medicine specialist Dr Javed Mughal, who joined the board as director of sports exercise and medicine earlier this year.
This matter was already pointed out by the Chief Selector. Aqib Javed Announcing the ODI squad for the Bangladesh series where both Babar and Fakhar were left out. He had confirmed that the board would look into the circumstances surrounding his fitness clearance.The situation escalated when it was revealed that both the players were dealing with injury concerns even after the World Cup. Babar later withdrew from the National T20 Championship due to a hamstring problem, while Fakhar was also nursing a similar problem.“When Babar was examined, his injury turned out to be more serious than the initial diagnosis, while Fakher has been battling the same problem for months now,” said a source.The report also states that the national selectors were informed by the team management that both players have been cleared to play by team physiotherapist Cliff Deacon. However, Deacon has previously come under fire for reportedly sanctioning players despite minor injuries, allegedly due to his close association with squad members.Babar is currently undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy under the PCB’s medical panel and is expected to regain fitness in time. The tournament is scheduled to start from March 26.Fakhar, meanwhile, has already returned to action in the National T20 Cup and has hinted on social media that although he was not fully fit during the Bangladesh ODI series, he is now in a position to feature in the ongoing competition.
