India’s spin bowling coach Sairaj Behotale has resolved the controversy surrounding teenage batting sensation Vibhu Suryavanshi after the heated scenes that followed the dramatic defeat by Sri Lanka A in the tri-nation A series at Dambulla. The 15-year-old found himself in the spotlight after clashing with Sri Lanka A players at the end of a tense encounter at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium on Monday. India A suffered a heartbreaking defeat in the Super Over, leaving their hopes of reaching the final in the balance, but the post-match replay quickly became the main talking point. Later fresh details revealed that Sri Lanka AC player Vaishan Halambay reportedly initiated the exchange after the home side’s victory.“Match over… now you go home,” Halambay allegedly told Suryavanshi. The comment sparked a backlash from the young Indian batsman, who responded verbally before shoving the Sri Lankan player. The situation escalated when the two players came face-to-face before teammates stepped in to separate them.Speaking about the incident during a press conference, Bahotale described the incident as unfortunate but urged caution before passing judgement.“It was an unfortunate incident, but we don’t know how it was provoked. As far as I know Webhe’s a very composed guy.”The former India spinner said the matter would be dealt with internally and stressed the importance of educating young cricketers about on-field conduct.“It was unfortunate, but I’m sure there are experienced coaches who will explain things to them. I think the Sri Lankan players should also be educated on how we need to behave, and it’s the same for us.”Bahotale asserted that Suryavanshi is still learning and taking on an important responsibility as a young international representative.“We will make sure that information is given to him as to why this happened. He is a young kid with a lot of responsibilities and he is representing India. I think there will be some understanding, and I am sure he will not repeat it.”The Indian coach hoped that such incidents could be prevented in future.“I think such incidents can be avoided.”Despite the clash, the players of both teams completed the customary handshake after the match.
