The child actor who played Yohaan Awasthi in 'Taare Zameen Par' is now a dentist and pilot in the UK, here's what he looks like now

When ‘Taare Zameen Par’ released in 2007, it did much more than entertain the audience. Film, director Aamir Khanit ignited debates about parenting, the pressures of the education system and the realities faced by children with learning disabilities. The audience was also treated to two talented child artists, Darsheel Safari and Sachet engineer. While Darsheel remained attached to the acting world, Sachet quietly drifted away from the limelight. Almost 20 years later, the actor who played Ishaan Awasthi’s lovable elder brother has pursued a completely different career as a dentist in the UK and now also pursues his passion for aviation. In the film, Sachet portrayed Yohaan Nandkishore Awasthi, an academic sibling who excelled in studies and sports while standing by Ishaan’s side. Apparently, the actor’s real-life journey mirrors some of these traits. Instead of continuing in showbiz, he chose to focus on academics and professional growth.According to his LinkedIn profile, Sachet completed his M.Clin.Dent in Periodontology at the prestigious UCL Eastman Dental Institute in London. He is also a registered member of the European Federation of Periodontology (EFP) and has successfully passed both parts of the Overseas Registration Examination (ORE) to qualify to practice dentistry in the UK.Before moving abroad, he graduated from DY Patil University, where he was awarded a gold medal in Periodontology. But his ambitions go beyond dentistry.Although her Instagram profile remains private, occasional posts offer glimpses into her life. In 2024, Sachet showed his interest in flying by sharing a photo of an airplane cockpit. Reflecting on the experience, he wrote, “Being in control here shrinks the toughest challenges below to insignificance. A true reminder that the horizon is endless, and so are the possibilities. My first flight, but definitely not my last.Despite becoming a familiar face after the success of ‘Taare Zameen Par’, Sachet says acting was never a carefully planned career choice. In 2022, in an interview with Bollywood Hungama, he revealed how he got the role by accident.“I come from a film family. My grandmother, Krishna Kumari Seth, was an actress and my grandfather, Suraj Prakash, was a producer. So I was always surrounded by the world of cinema, although I had no intention of entering the field. The creators were testing my little brother at first. I happened to be there and they asked me: ‘Why don’t you try it too?’ I did, and a month later, I got a call. I was 11 years old at the time,” he recalled. The popularity of the film brought him instant recognition, but he chose not to stop it by signing more films.“People started to recognize him in the street. I used to smile. I’ve grown quite a bit, but people can still guess. Or they feel they have seen me somewhere. I did a couple of commercials later. I got a few film offers, but I didn’t accept them because I wanted to complete my studies before I got sidetracked,” he said.Interestingly, Sachet didn’t completely rule out a return to acting. In the same interview, he expressed his interest in returning to the profession after completing his studies. However, four years later, there has been no sign of a return, as his focus seems to remain on dentistry and aviation.
