Prarthana Behere on Indian cinema and films like ‘Dhurandhar’ pushing boundaries
Sharing his thoughts on where cinema is heading today, Prarthana said, “I have been associated with the industry for many years. Before becoming an actor, I was a journalist and also reviewed films. Because of our experience, we often judge films as critics rather than enjoy them as viewers. But films like ‘Dhurandhar’ remind you to watch cinema as a viewer. When you do that, you feel like, ‘Wow, this is something different. Indian cinema is going in an exciting direction.’He added, “I feel proud when films like this are made. Everyone has different tastes. A film that I like may not necessarily appeal to someone else. At the end of the day, cinema is about entertainment. What matters is how effectively it entertains the audience. Indian cinema is doing very well these days and I am happy to be a part of this industry.”
Prarthana Behere speaks in ‘Mardini’
Talking about ‘Mardini’, the actor said that he is delighted with the opportunity and considers it an important turning point in his journey.“Very excited. As I said, I started my career as a journalist. From there to lead a film as ‘Prarthana Behere in and as Mardini’ is a huge milestone for me,” he said. The actor also revealed that the audience will see him in a completely new light. “People have mostly seen me in glamorous roles so far. This film presents me in a completely different avatar.”For Prarthana, 2026 has already been a memorable year. “‘Mardini’ is my third film of the year. My previous two films did very well, including the home production venture. So I feel fortunate to have received such opportunities, and I’m sure the audience will appreciate it.”Adding to the emotional significance of the film is Myra’s reunion with the child actress. The couple has shared screen space before, and Prarthana feels that their existing bond helped lend authenticity to their on-screen relationship.“There is a lot of nostalgia because Myra and I are meeting on screen. The audience immediately connects us to our previous work. In fact, this emotional connection made it easier for me to work with her mother. I have always looked at her as my own child, so I did not have to create this connection artificially. It already existed naturally between us”, he concluded.
