Steven Spielberg is returning to the world of alien mysteries with Disclosure Day, an ambitious sci-fi thriller that the acclaimed filmmaker says took shape in his childhood. Ahead of the film’s release, Spielberg spoke about his initial experience of being curious about the unknown.

“I remember one summer, when we lived in New Jersey, my dad took me out to see the annual Perseid meteor shower,” Spielberg recalled, adding, “Overnight, I developed a real curiosity about what’s going on in the stars, on a planet orbiting multiple solar systems, and if one of them had a civilization that was quite advanced in the universe.”

The Oscar-winning director also revealed that ‘Disclosure Day’ is inspired by long-standing theories and speculations about unidentified aerial phenomena and alleged recovered extraterrestrial technology. He said: “If you go down the rabbit hole of UFO lore, you’ll find all this speculation that the various technological advances we’ve made as a civilization owe their existence to technology extracted from pure UAP craft and then reverse-engineered by humans. It’s all speculative, but the idea has always been interesting to me. Technology that WARDEX has never been able to explore.”Describing the scale of the project, Spielberg said he wanted the film to provide an exciting cinematic experience from start to finish as it builds to a big reveal. “I definitely thought this story should hook up a couple of jet engines and take the audience on a hair-raising ride,” Spielberg said. “I wanted that to start from the first frame and end in a 20-minute finale that would lead to a unified epiphany about what’s going on in the world, what’s been kept from us, and what we know now.“
