The actress admitted that the portrayal of the film woman has been tough for a long time. He also argued that objectification is a wider social problem that extends beyond the film industry.
Kangana Ranaut’s objectification of women in cinema
As a discussion about the portrait Janhvi KapoorAchiyyamma character from ‘Peddi’ continues to rage online, Kangana Ranaut shared her opinion in an interview with India Today. Asked why mainstream cinema continues to rely on hypersexualized female characters, Kangana argued that objectification cannot be confined to films alone.She said: “Women are objectified even if they go on a local train. So to say they are objectified in movies is a huge understatement. If you go on a local train, you get shoved, punched, even a local bus. It also happens on the road. So, it’s nothing to do with movies anyway.”At the same time, Kangana Ranaut has also acknowledged the failure of the film industry to represent women. He added, “But yes, the film lens has been very hard on women. Be it songs like ‘Sexy-sexy mujhe log bole’, or ‘Sarkailo Khatia’, all those things.”He added: “But sometimes the line between seduction, rudeness and this complete injustice to women gets blurred, knowingly or sometimes unknowingly. So I think that’s the nature of entertainment.”
Kangana Ranaut on excessive online trolling
While calling for course correction where necessary, the ‘Manikarnika’ actor also expressed indiscriminate online outrage. He said: “This kind of correction is necessary, and sometimes there is too much trolling and prejudice. Because sensuality is also a part of art. And sexuality is also a representation of a story. And the film industry is not your subject of education; you come here for entertainment.”Kangana stated that people should understand the context before passing judgement. The actor shared, “I’m just saying, sometimes I feel like even today we’re in a place where trolling anything or everything is so merciless. We don’t ask what it is exactly. What is the subject? Maybe that topic is gray; maybe that whole setup has something to do with the plot. Without it, it’s just trolling, trolling, trolling. So that’s not good either.”
The ‘Peddi’ controversy
‘Peddi’ is being criticized for Janhvi Kapoor’s portrayal in the film. In the introduction scene of her character, Achiyamma, the camera pans over her body before revealing her face.
