Mahir Pandhi says COVID and budget hike killed ‘Takht’
In an interview with Mid-day, Mahir revealed the real reasons for rejecting “Takht”. “Takht was not a normal film. It was Mr. Yash Johar’s last dream project and it had a historical connection with it. When you write a script based on history, you cannot change the facts. Once COVID happened, it was very difficult to gather so many actors and align their dates,” he said. Mahir also revealed that the budget had gone over Rs 200 crore, making it difficult for the makers to organize the money. He further added, “Even if you wanted to plan two years later, it would have been impossible to assemble the entire cast. And if you make Takht today, you would have to rewrite the script from scratch because the audience has changed.”

For Mahir, dropping ‘Takht’ was not a professional setback, it was a very personal one. Being associated with a biggie Dharma Productions was a dream, and the film started opening new doors for him in the industry. “I was almost living that dream. They invited me to parties, and they welcomed me. They made me feel like a part of the film. Looking back, only I know how hard it was to accept that a Dharma film wasn’t going to happen for me,” he shared emotionally.

The actor also looked back on his early days in the industry and said that his looks became an obstacle. She revealed that she was often typecast and got away with looking a certain way. “Initially, it was an important factor. Because of my eyes, face and facial features, I was often considered a typical Kashmiri character or a terrorist only. Those were the categories I was usually put in,” he said.
