Broadway’s biggest celebration is underway with the 79th Annual Tony Awards honoring the best productions and performances of the season.The evening began with an “Act One” preview, hosted by Laura Benanti and Tituss Burgess, before the main event at Radio City Music Hall. This year’s show is hosted by singer Pink.‘The Lost Boys’ and ‘Schmgadoon!’ have emerged as the most nominated shows of the night.The two musicals will enter the ceremony with 12 nominations, and they are precedents in multiple categories. Close behind is the critically acclaimed revival of ‘Ragtime’ with 11 nominations, while ‘Death of a Salesman’ and ‘Cats: The Jellicle Ball’ each earned nine nominations.A total of 24 Broadway productions are competing in 26 categories. In addition to the competition categories, the event is organized to celebrate various anniversaries in the history of Broadway. Special performances will pay tribute to long-running and influential musicals including ‘The Book of Mormon,’ ‘Chicago’ and ‘A Chorus Line.’Audiences can also look forward to performances from the seven nominees competing in the Best Musical and Best Musical Revival categories.
