He released a statement saying that Janhvi had explicitly objected to certain shots in the film, objections that were allegedly omitted in the final edit.

Taking to her Instagram stories on Saturday, Savleen Kaur Manchanda shared a slide that painted a very different picture of Janhvi’s involvement in the contested scenes. The post said, “It’s easy to blame an actor for the roles he takes, but the actual timeline tells a different story. Reports show that Janhvi Kapoor explicitly questioned these shots in post-production, perfectly reflecting her recent public stance against the industry’s habit of over-sexualizing women.“The message went further, directly calling out filmmaking options that overcame the actor’s expressed concerns. He said: “He drew a professional line, but the final edit kept the footage anyway. This is not a case of an actor not defending himself. It’s a director who decided to ignore a limit because he decided his approval was less important than his box office numbers.”

After the growing backlash over the hypersexualization of Janhvi Kapoor’s character Achiyyamma, director Buchi Babu Sana issued a formal apology to X. Part of her statement read: “I’ve always had tremendous respect for women, both on and off screen, and it was never our intention to objectify or disrespect any female character. If any part of the film was perceived as such, we respect those feelings, understand the concerns raised and sincerely apologize. After analyzing the opinion, we have decided to make changes in the relevant parts.”

Despite the constant controversy, ‘Peddi’ has maintained a strong streak at the box office. The film has grossed over 190 million worldwide. It also stars Ram Charan, Boman Irani, Divyenndu and Shiva Rajkumar in key roles. The film opened in theaters on June 4, 2026.
