Director Advait Chandan has walked out of Dharma Productions’ ‘Dostana 2’ starring Vikrant Massey and Lakshya due to creative differences with the producers. The split was amicable. Chandan spent nearly seven months developing the project before leaving. The film has had a turbulent journey since its announcement in 2019.

Film maker Advait Chandan Dharma Productions’ much awaited sequel ‘Dostana 2’ has parted company. The director was at the helm of the project and reportedly spent around seven months working on the development before finally deciding to leave.

As reported by Variety India, the distribution came down to creative differences; Chandan’s vision for the film did not match the direction the producers had in mind. The split, however, has been on good terms, with no bad blood between the two sides beyond the simple side of creative vision.

Chandan’s exit is just the latest twist in what has been a long and rocky journey for ‘Dostana 2’, a project that has seen several reinventions since it was first announced. The sequel to the 2008 film “Dostana” was initially launched in 2019 starring Kartik Aaryan, Janhvi Kapoor and Lakshya will star, and Collin D’Cunha was lined up to make his feature directorial debut. However, the project was eventually shelved.

In recent years, Dharma Productions returned to work on a revamped version of the film. The revived project was said to have Vikrant and Lakshya in the lead roles, with former beauty pageant winner Sini Shetty being considered for the female lead.

Advait Chandan’s directorial journey before ‘Dostana 2’

Advait Chandan later directed the new version of the film and worked for almost a year. His casting as a director was highly appreciated in the industry, which is known for striking a fine balance between mass entertainment and emotional storytelling. ‘Loveyapa’ was his last film in the director’s chair, and before that, he had helmed the Aamir Khan starrer ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’.
