The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially unveiled India’s men’s squad for the 2026 Asian Games in Ireland, England and Japan, with Shreyas Iyer named captain and young sensation Vibhu Suryavanshi getting his maiden call-up to the senior national T20 team.The selection marks a significant change in India’s white-ball setup, as Iyer takes over the leadership role from Suryakumar Yadav. The move reflects the selectors’ long-term strategy to enhance India’s leadership options ahead of the 2028 T20 World Cup.However, the headline-grabbing inclusion is undoubtedly 15-year-old batting prodigy Vibhu Suryavanshi. The Rajasthan Royals youngster has enjoyed a meteoric rise over the past year, establishing himself as one of the brightest talents in Indian cricket.Suryavanshi played a pivotal role in India’s victorious 2026 ICC Under-19 Men’s Cricket World Cup campaign, winning the Man of the Tournament and Man of the Final awards. He carried that form into IPL 2026, where he scored an astonishing 776 runs at a strike rate of 237.30, forcing him into the conversation for national selection.Chief selector Ajit Agarkar admitted that the youngster’s performance left the selectors with no choice but to include him in the squad.“Vibhu’s performance almost made us take him. I know he is young, but two consecutive IPL seasons and what he has done at the Under-19 level speaks for itself. We can all see what kind of talent he has,” Agarkar said at a press conference.
Ajit Agarkar added, “There will be tougher challenges but he has shown great promise and poise. We are as optimistic as everyone is.
